Wael Almahmeed & IAS Research Training/Fellowship Grants

The 4th Wael Almahmeed and IAS Research Training Fellowship provides next-generation leaders in the Middle East and Africa the opportunity to advance their clinical research and education in cardio-cerebro-metabolic diseases, as well as promote partnerships among researchers from recognized universities and health care insitutions in both regions. This initiative is made possible by a generous donation to the IAS by Wael Almahmeed, MD, from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

AIM OF FELLOWSHIP:

The 4th Wael Almahmeed and IAS Research Training Fellowship targets young researchers in the Middle East and Africa, who are dedicated to atherosclerosis and cardio-cerebro-metabolic diseases. Selected fellows will be awarded up to $10,000 USD to advance their skills at a host institution of their choice, preferably outside of their home country, for up to 6 months. Grant amount will be prorated, based on duration of research.

Upon completion of research, fellows will:

  • Learn new and innovative research techniques
  • Share their completed research on IAS platforms
  • Implement learnings by initiating new programming focused on the advancement of atherosclerosis and cardio- cerebro-metabolic disease in their home country
  • Pave the way for future applicants who participate in the Wael Almahmeed and IAS Research Training Fellowship

WHO CAN APPLY:

  • Citizens or permanent residents of Middle East or African countries*
  • Clinicians or researchers with a medical degree
  • Applicants 40 years of age and below
    * Periods of residence for the purpose of full time education is not applicable

The following documents are required:

  • Letter of request to apply to the fellowship signed by candidate
  • Curriculum Vitae/Resume that includes a description of candidate’s:
    • Pre and Post graduate career
    • Research Experience
    • Education
    • Publications in peer reviewed journals relevant to this application
  • Letter signed by candidate’s supervisor or current Department Head supporting the fellowship application
  • Letter signed by supervisor of candidate’s future host institution supporting the fellowship application
  • Description of proposed research and/or training at host institution signed jointly by candidate and future host supervisor
  • Two signed letters of support from referrals, preferably by individuals involved in an IAS member society
