Rare Disease Day 2021

Rare Disease Day takes place in February each year to raise awareness about rare diseases and their impact on patients’ lives.  Rare Disease Day is an important day, providing an opportunity to raise awareness for HoFH (Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia) and celebrate the people who are dedicated advocates for the disease.

In Iraq, at Erbil ( Kurdistan territory north of Iraq), Dr Lana Ahmed, Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical University of Erbil, Head of Rare Disease Unit at Raparin Hospital for Pediatrics and Maternity, the regional manager of the national pediatric FH screening program in Iraq, and a member of the Iraqi lipid clinics network, arranged a symposium about rare diseases focusing on HoFH (prevalence, cardiovascular mortality and morbidity and the importance of early diagnosis), the audience was a group of medical students, junior doctors and postgraduate doctors at Raparin hospital in Erbil .

Thank you to the FH foundation which provided us with educational materials.
