History of Indian Society for Atherosclerosis Research:
The Indian Society for Atherosclerosis (ISAR) was founded in 1987 with the major aim to advance knowledge of the causes, natural history, prevention, and treatment of human atherosclerosis in the Indian population, as well as to promote research activities both in the basic sciences and clinical fields of atherosclerosis.
It is a multi-disciplinary research society whose membership includes biochemists, molecular biologists, pathologists, cardiologists, cardiovascular scientists, epidemiologists, pharmacologists, medicinal chemists, and internists.
The ISAR was affiliated with the IAS in 1990. A number of ISAR members have availed themselves short term visiting fellowships of the IAS for pursuing advanced research in foreign labs.
The Annual conference of the society (ISARCON) is held every year at different academic centres wherein members present and share their works on various aspects of atherosclerosis. The proceedings of the conference is published as Current Advances in Atherosclerosis Research.
