THE HUNGARIAN ATHEROSCLEROSIS SOCIETY
The Hungarian Atherosclerosis Society was established as a forum for free-ranging and detailed discussions on all aspects of the pathology and treatment of atherosclerosis. Besides 3 national clinical and research centres, 27 adult and 16 pediatric clinics belong to Hungarian Atherosclerosis Society.
Since 2002, the biennial Congress of Hungarian Atherosclerosis Society in Sopron has provided treatment guidelines for dyslipidemias. The broad-based nature of the membership, which includes most of the principal investigators and clinical opinion leaders in the field of atherosclerosis and vascular diseases, ensures wide-ranging and critical debate.
One of the priorities is to reach a consensus on the treatment guidelines for dyslipidemia, obesity, type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Therefore, since 2003 the Hungarian Atherosclerosis Society has organized Therapy Consensus Conferences regularly, this biennial event has become one of the most significant forum for the harmonization of treatment guidelines for patients at risk for major vascular abnormalities. The Therapy Consensus Conference is a joint initiative of many different societies in the field of cardiovascular science and medicine.
A scientific research journal entitled Metabolizmus was founded by Hungarian Atherosclerosis Society in 2003, working in close collaboration with other societies.
Recently the official website of the Hungarian Atherosclerosis Society (www.atherosclerosis.hu) has been completely re-designed and it provides up-to date informations for society members and other professionals in the field of atherosclerosis
