Dr. Giorgio Cavigiolio (USA)

Dr. Cavigiolio will train for 3 months in the laboratory of Prof Shinji Yokoyama in the Department of Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and Metabolism in the Nagoya City University Graduate School of Medical Sciences in Nagoya, Japan to study the influence of apolipoprotein A-I self-association on ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux. The central goal of this research proposal is to test the hypothesis that ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux from macrophages depends on the self-association state of lipid-free apoA-I.

Dr. Montse Guargiola (Spain)

Dr. Guargiola will train for 6 months in the laboratory of Prof. Philippa Talmud at the University College of London, Centre for Cardiovascular Genetics, London, UK to study PLA2G2A, PLA2G5 and PLA2G10 variants, sPLA2 activity and mass and CHD risk in Grace and EPIC-Norfolk Studies. The aim of this study is to use a genetic approach to tease out the contribution of sPLA2-lla, -V and -X to measures of sPLA2 mass and activity.

Dr. Emily Sonestedt (Sweden)

Dr. Sonestedt will train for 6 months in the laboratory of Dr. Ronald M. Krauss at the Children's Hospital, Oakland Research Institute, Oakland, CA USA to determine the importance of dietary and genetic factors on the level of lipoprotein subfractions in the Malmo Diet and Cancer study.
