    Dov Gavish
  • Treasurer

Activities:

The society has 150 registered members including scientists and prominent clinicians engaged in basic research clinical research and medical education in all the consequences and mechanisms of atherosclerosis. Since 2002 we are hosting and organizing the international meeting Frontiers in Cardiovascular Science(FCS) in Eilat in conjunction with our annual meeting .

At the 2009 meeting between 15-18 October 2009, we held 20 leading international speakers and many scientific presentations given by our best researchers. We gave two awards for excellence in basic and clinical research. The next meeting in 2010 mid October is promising to be innovative and we look forward to having an excellent international program. The society organizes the atherosclerosis academy annually.

Until 2009 we had a 3 day academy and on 2010 the academy will be held in Eilat. Just prior to the FCS meeting on February 12, 2010 we held a semiannual meeting dedicated to HDL and to LDL phoresis. Prof. J. Betteridge gave a guest lecture followed by presentations of research and clinical discussions on the subjects. Two young clinicians received a scholarship donated by the Strassburger family and dedicated to enhance clinical research. The scholarships will be given annually from 2010 onwards.

Last but not least we coordinated and published a comprehensive recommendations paper outlining the state of the art for prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis and its complications. The 2010 guidelines cover smoking cessation, diet, physical activities, obesity, hypertension, diabetes and lipid lowering.

Sincerely,

Dov Gavish, MD
Secretary of ISRPTA
